After recently captivating audiences in Edmonton with her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, soprano Christina Bell (nee Schmolke) is thrilled to announce her return to her hometown of Vernon for a performance of opera, musical theatre, and jazz. Join her at the Trinity United Church on May 4, 2025, at 2.00 with accompanist Neta Petkau as she takes the stage to showcase the beauty of opera—a genre that she recently reconnected with.
Having honed her craft in various musical realms, Bell grew up in Vernon and studied with vocal instructor Elizabeth Scott. She also played the lead role in several musicals at Vernon Secondary School, including Sandy in Grease. "Vernon was a special place to grow up in because we had great training and many opportunities." After Christina moved to Edmonton to pursue a career as a psychologist, she performed vocal jazz. She released her original album of pop/R&B songs in 2006, which received regular radio play. Christina recently decided to reconnect with her classical music roots and return to Vernon to perform.
"It's a dream come true to perform again in my hometown," expresses Bell. "I have always had such gratitude for the musical influences that have shaped me in Vernon, and this concert is a way to express my appreciation."
This special concert will feature a selection of beloved operatic arias, infused with hints of jazz to reflect her unique musical journey. Join us for an enchanting afternoon celebrating the return of Christina Bell to Vernon—a homecoming that promises to resonate in the hearts of all who attend.
